It seems like Concept Colony is in a constant state of flux, but that’s all about to change. For the past few months we’ve had a holder page up, with a mailing list sign-up form and a link to the old portfolio and that’s about it; I figured it would be best to have a temporary splash page up instead of flaunting our previous sub-par work. Well the replacement portfolio is nearing completion and with that comes yet another relaunch.
This launch will be slightly different than our normal fare: we finally have an LLC set up to back the studio which means we now have tax responsibilities, bank accounts, business cards, and fancy suits. Alright, the suits part is a lie but everything else is true. I’ve got a few large projects that have been in the pipeline for a couple months that are also nearing completion and will be added to the portfolio before the launch. Also coming is a more active blog section on Concept Colony. We’re going to be doing some reviews, opinion pieces, CSS/XHTML/JavaScript tutorials, basically anything related to design and the creative process.
Hope all is well, and I’ll post again soon with more details on Concept Colony, maybe even a preview of some stuff.

Today is an election day here in America, and our friends in Maine are fighting a battle that should have been decided a long time ago. I’m talking, of course, about Proposition 1. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what legal or moral ground opponents of gay marriage stand on. There is no question in my mind that anyone opposed to the rights of homosexual couples to marry is not only a bigot, but also, to throw around a term Republicans seem all too fond of these days, un-American.
Regardless of religious affiliation, there is no logical reason to vote against gay marriage. The first amendment guarantees you the right to practice your religion; it also guarantees me the right to be free of your religious bullshit. We have a word for zealots who wish to impose their religious and moral structure upon their countrymen, regardless of what that religion is: terrorist. The Taliban use guns to spread fear and oppression; the religious right uses their vote to do the same. Never, under any circumstance should the majority ever have the ability to decide upon the rights of the minority; were this the precedent in the history of our county women still couldn’t vote and schools would still be segregated. Equal protection guaranteed by the 14th amendment applies to everyone, regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
If anything I’ve said offends you, I don’t apologize and I frankly don’t care. This is not a matter subject to difference of opinion or religion: this is a matter of right and wrong.

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, and there’s still a ton of work to get done on this site before it’s “finished”, so I thought I’d just fill you guys in on how everything is coming along. I’ve taken down the broken links at the top of the page until I finish writing the content for them, as well as fixing a couple of broken links in the footer. Hopefully my brain will start working and I can think of a couple category names to have instead of posting everything under “uncategorized”.
On the professional front, Concept Colony is in the midst of a major renovation, which is coming with the formation of its own L.L.C. and a sweet new layout and some pretty snazzy looking business cards to match. Check my Twitter feed for a couple twitpics, and head over to Concept Colony on the 1st or 2nd of November to check out the placeholder page, which is a sneak preview of sorts for the new layout.
Posting again soon (hopefully),
Greg

Avast my children, I have returned to ye (trying to get as many different awkward greetings into one sentence as possible). After an awkwardly long hiatus mostly brought on by my failure to correctly update WordPress, I have decided to return to blogging yet again.
Coincidentally, this happens to be the same week that nearly every single technological/mechanical device in my possession decided to either fail, implode, or fall victim to my boundless grace. The first casualty actually occurred last week; on my way to meet Stormy and Lexie for the impeccable “Inglorious Basterds”, I decided it would be a fantastic idea to take the last corner of my parking garage too tight and give a love tap to a metal pole with my back door.
The second fatality was nothing other than my beloved TV. I’d been under suspicion that the bulb was going bad for some time now, but I went to watch a couple instant watch films from Netflix and the poor soul wouldn’t stay on for longer than five minutes without overheating. However, one overnighted spotlight and 10 minutes of comical labor later, the issue was solved.
The last straw happened today. On my way to the Apple store to pick up an AirPort Extreme, in a twist of dramatic irony fit for Alanis herself, my iPhone dramatically leapt from my hand and committed ritualistic screen suicide in an alley. My main goal during every phone call now is to not hear the other party; rather it is to prevent shards of broken glass from flying into my eardrums and/or eyes like tiny spears.
Honestly though? They’re all just things. If there’s anything the past four years of my life have taught me, it’s this: stuff breaks and landscapes change, but if you surround yourself with great friends none of that really matters.
Hope all is well,
Greg

I’d like to appologize for the appearance of the blog at the moment, I ran into a bit of an issue upgrading to version 2.8.3 of WordPress, involving me being an idiot and trying to cancel it in the middle, basically being locked out of editing anything related to the blog.
So over the next few days I’ll be re-writing everything, and attempting to finish out everything I didn’t finish before.
In other news, I’ve been diligently working on the new layout for Concept Colony.com in order to make my profile one of the better sites I’ve made in some time. I’m considering also displaying some of the layouts that I’ve designed but not implemented yet, just as a few further examples of my work. Comment and let me know if you think that’s a good idea?
